You can bot to the liveCD and reinstate grub.

Grub doesn't use sudo, it has it's own commands.

The CD or USB you installed can give a desktop without changing your installed OS and will run in RAM. You can perform a lot of administrative tasks here and is one excellence which Windows lacks

Hi!

I'm having the exact same problem. I had just finished updating and left to go visit my mom. I stupidly unplugged my computer and the battery died, causing it to shut down. Now when I try to boot into Ubuntu, I get this message:

"GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3.9

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists all possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions."

I'm using my boyfriend's laptop now to try to figure out how to fix this and I have no access to a USB stick and no way to make a copy of a live cd.

Is there anything I can try without having to use either of those in order to get my computer working again?

Just so you know, I partitioned my HD when I originally installed Ubuntu, but I'm not sure which one it is and I can't see a list of available drives.

Thanks!

I tried booting from the flash drive and it's working but I'm unable to install Ubuntu. When I try these commands, it says these don't exist:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount: mount point /mnt/dev does not exist

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc
mount: mount point /mnt/proc does not exist

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys
mount: mount point /mnt/sys does not exist

What should I do??

Thanks!
