receiving "error: file not found." Line "grub rescue>"

Asked by Joshua Brown

I think what happened is that I installed the grub loader on the wrong device. I meant to load it into dev/sdb but accidentally loaded it into dev/sda and now my computer won't boot to my Widows 7 OS. I tried repeatedly to install 12.04LTS on my desktops second hard drive and it failed all times. Now when i boot up the computer i get the error:

error: file not found.
grub rescue>

whenever i try to boot my computer. I HAVE to get back into the system before i just reformat and start over because i have sensitive documents in there...is there anyway for me to remove grub from sda?

I am seriously new to linux commands and have worked with dos all of my life till this point...HELP! :'(

Disregard...

I loaded the recovery disk before i posted this and it didn't fix the issue..after running it again the computer boots to Windows 7. I'm sorry if anyone wasted any time on this.

On a positive note..my laptop recieved the 12.04LTS load and is working wonderfully. :D
