error: ELF header smaller than expected

Asked by Nate

Alright so I am getting this error in the grub rescue screen: "error: ELF header smaller than expected". This started after I ran the first update on ubuntu 12.04 x64. Right now I am running ubuntu alongside windows 7. I installed ubuntu without being connected to the internet, so the first update was pretty huge(like 200-300mb). After that update, I restarted the computer, and then up came the grub rescue screen with the above mentioned error.

Does anybody know how to atleast get into ubuntu so I can try to repair grub. Or maybe if someone can put some step by step instructions on how to fix this from grub rescue.

Also I am a noob when it comes to grub (and almost everything else)

Thanks
