Want to delete Ubuntu: after deleting Ubuntu partition using Win i get Grub Rescue at boot

Asked by Miguel Celis

It tried to install Ubuntu but all it would do is take me to grub asking to load ubuntu or windows 7. When it loaded Ubuntu it would just sit there at checking battery state. I decided to uninstall Ubuntu but didn't know how. I logged into windows 7 and deleted the partition Ubuntu was on. Now I can't log into anything it just says:
error: unknown file system.
Grub rescue>
It tried booting with the disk I installed Ubuntu with but it just went to the grub rescue screen. How can I get my computer to load at least windows 7 again???

If you try to boot off the Ubuntu LiveCD and it take you to the grub screen on the hard drive instead, then either the disk isn't bootable, or you need to set up the BIOS correctly to boot off it.

Regardless, if you want to boot Windows and grub is no longer working, you'll have to re-install the Windows MBR. Fortunately this is pretty easy:
