Ubuntu doesn't start/boot.

Asked by David

I have Ubuntu on my pc, its ubuntu 10.04 I think, but every time I start my pc it comes up with a screen that gives me 4 options:
-Ubuntu with Linux 2.6.38-8 generic(If I choose this option it will show a command line blinking but I can't write anything on it)
-Ubuntu with Linux 2.6.38-8 generic (repair mode)
-Memory test (memtest86+)
-Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)

The screen on the top says ''GNU GRUB version 1.99~rc-13ubuntu3

and I also got the option to press ''c'' to start command line.

My dvd driver isn't working so what can I do to start UBUNTU without having to re-install it.

Seems to be that your bootloader grup2 is damaged.

Insert the installation cd/dvd you have used and boot it. Enter the option rescue system.

In there is the possibility to reinstall grup2.

A in brief description I could not give here. You know this is from users to users.

When you need further advice use internet search or when you are new to Ubuntu it may be recommend to use following for your first year-after that you have learned enough to not need them anymore:
