boot menu, 10.04

Asked by richard c savage

Recently did some reworking on my wife's desktop; cleaned up some WinXP stuff and reinstalled U10.04.2.
The boot menu now comes up with Ubuntu at the top of the list, the default choice.
However, she's a WinXP user, and would prefer to have WinXP as top/default.
The choices used to be in menu.lst in the boot/grub directory; no longer true, and I haven't been able to find that list.
Anybody know where it is now, and if it can be edited to change the default?
Happy Valentine's Day, all.

Command: grep menuentry /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Find and copy the "Windows.... " string (including the quotes).

Command: gksu gedit /etc/default/grub
The entry you want to edit is GRUB_DEFAULT. Paste the string you copied. Save. Quit.

Command: sudo update-grub
