Grub Rescue

Asked by Rand Al'Thor

I just decided to give Ubuntu a try today.

I completed the install and when it restarts I get this error:

error: invalid extent.
grub rescue>

I have tried reinstalling Ubuntu but I got the same error.

My specs:
It is the 64 bit version.
I am installing it on a 100 Gb Hdd.
I also have windows vista on a second hard drive, but I disconnected its hard drive to make sure it wouldn't change anything.
My computer is a HP d499z
4gb of ddr2 ram
quad core Amd 9600 processor at 2.3 ghz
Gtx 8600 graphics card.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Boot to live CD and you can reinstate the grub bootloader using a chroot:

Can you help with this problem?
