Can I update my BIOS with Ubuntu Dual booted?

I have a Dell optiplex gx270 and and I installed Ubuntu 11.10 the other day. I later found that I could update my BIOs and I would prefer it to be updated. I was wondering if it would mess with Ubuntu or the Grub launcher. any conformation would be appreciated.

the bios will not mess up your grub.
the bios is burned onto a chip in your computer. grub resides on your hard disk.
bios stands for basic input output system and controls how components in your computer interact with each other.
grub is program code that loads your operating system when you turn on the computer.
