not taking boot from hard disk

while attempting to selective menu of WINDOWS or UBUNTU, it's not taking to the grub menu...
a screen comes with------ "GNU GRUB version 1.99 rcl-13ubuntu3"
and the pointer blinks at-- "grub>_ " -- like this...
what just happend??
how to get back into the system?
