Cannot boot windows 7 after Ubuntu installation

Asked by Raul

Hi,

I've never used Linux before but decided to finally give it try. I just bought a laptop and installed Ubuntu. Ubuntu works, but now I can't boot windows. I see the option for windows 7 in Grub but when i select it, it wont start. This is the message I receive:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

.......windows installation disc etc...

status:0xc0000225

Info:The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First you boot with windows 7 installation disc and whenever the installer copies the windows 7 files, next it will give a option for installation and some other option for system recovery. Instead of installation you can choose for other recover options.
And in recovery option it will gives other menus like command prompt, memory diagnostic and startup recovery. Now you try with startup recovery and it will check for startup problems and fix those problems automatically if any have. Now restart the system in order to work your windows 7. If you are not succeeded with the above procedure please post another message here.

NOTE: Please take care of not to install windows 7 and you just check for recovering options using windows 7 installer disc.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the windows 7 installation disc. I just bought this laptop and it didn't come with them. I created a repair disk before I installed Linux but the repair disc doesn't help. It asks me to select my operating system but none appears. Then It gives me a lot of recovery options but doesn't let me select them. Thanks for the help.

What do you mean by "but doesn't let me select them" ?

This is what happens when I use the repair disk:

I select a language and in the next screen it gives me these options

-use recovery tools that can help fix pronlems starting Windows. Select an operating system to repair.

If your operating system isn't listed, click Load Drivers and then install drivers for your hard disks.

-restore your computer using system image that you created earlier.

there is no operating systems listed, so I select the option that says load drivers. I see a message saying "insert the installation media for the device and click OK to select the driver." I don't know what to do from here. If I click OK, it wants me to select a file from (I'm assuming) the repair disk. I Hit cancel and then I hit next. This brings up another box that says ""Windows cannot find a system image on this computer. Attach the hard disk or insert the final DVD from a backup set and click retry, for more options close the dialog box"

When I close the box and hit cancel it brings me to a screen with a lot of recovery options of which none work. The next screen says system recovery manager and it has some more options but when I try to click them I can't. The only options it lets me select is "show contact information and "run computer checkup." Run computer checkup brings up some more options:
'launch check disk for the windows recovery partition," and a few others. When I try clicking these options nothing happens. The only one thing it allows me to do is open a command prompt, and restart/shutdown.

By the way, this is a brand new computer. I have no personal files on it. I bought it and immediately installed Ubuntu and ran into this problem. So I am not concerned with losing anything. I just want to be able to dual boot windows and Linux. In the meantime I am trying to acquire an installation disc from a friend, so I can do what bhasker suggested.

Thanks for the help.
