Ubuntu 10.4/WinXP dual bootup menu missing

Asked by Peter Saxon

Have Ubuntu 10.4 LTS installed on same drive (separate partition) & was working fine until I had to reinstall WinXP in the same partition it was previously. Now on bootup, the WinXP/Ubuntu menu does not appear & so am unable to get into Ubunto.
How can I recover the dual bootup menu?

Thanks for the link.
I completed the following, as per
How to restore Grub 2 after reinstalling Windows XP/Vista/Win7
1). Downloaded grub4dos
Copied the file “grldr”(without quotes) from grub4dos package to C:\.Edit
boot.ini and added this line to the file:
C:\grldr="grub4dos"

MY boot.ini file:
[boot loader]
Timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
C:\grldr="grub4dos"
[operating systems]
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

2. Created menu.lst in root directory of C:,its content:

Timeout 0
Default 0
Title grub2
Find --set-root /boot/grub/core.img
Kernel /boot/grub/core.img
Boot

Restarted computer.
Nothing changed. I still boot into XP.

Please advise.
Thanks

CORRECTION TO MY LAST EMAIL:
1). Downloaded grub4dos
Copied the file grldr (without quotes) from grub4dos package to drive C:\
Edited Boot.ini and added this line to the file:
C:\grldr="grub4dos"

Sorry about that.

If I boot from the Linux Starter Kit CD, would I be able to correct the
problem?
If, could you direct me to a link for the procedure?
Thanks

Please avoid posting with previous question included. Web thread is now unreadable.
I think link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Copy%20LiveCD%20Files is more easy to read.
If you need more help, please provide partition table: https://answers.launchpad.net/grub/+faq/1678
