Ubuntu 11.04 won't boot from my hard drive.

Asked by Nipun Jayasinghe

Hey Guys!

I'm new to both Linux and Ubuntu and during my first hard drive install have encountered an unforeseeable error of which Ubuntu refuses to boot from my hard drive. After trolling through some forum posts and "official documentation" I thought I'd try hit up some questions myself.

If its any help the computer on which I am installing has:

AMD x64 3500+ CPU
2GB Ram
256MB Video Card
250GB HDD
DVD Burner

So I'm assuming those specs are sufficient to be running Ubuntu and that it is not the problem.

But to answer the criteria that I am seeing below this text box, I'm try to have Ubuntu boot straight off my hard drive on which no other OS is installed. I believe my Linux file system is sufficient and that its not the problem as it shows up when I boot from the Live CD. My motherboard also seems to be fine as is my Bios as I was able to change settings in order for my Ubuntu to boot through my DVD drive. Any help to resolve this issue would be much greatly appreciated.

Cheers Guys!

Try reinstalling grub:
Reinstall Grub2 from CD:

From your post, your install target sounds like the internal hard disk. If that is not the case, and it is an external usb hard disk, then maybe your computer will not boot off usb -- there should be bios entries to move before the internal hard disk in the list if it boots off usb.
