Downloaded 11.04. When booting, I get only Grub

Asked by Jerry

After upgrading to 11.04, at first boot I get the following:

"GNU GRUB version 1.97~beta 4

[Minimal bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device/file completions]"

I have no idea what to do with this.

Instead of asking, you could have easily websearhed. This gets you fixed faster as you are not WAITING for someone to reply. There are hundreds of guides on how to do this....

You would have easily found guides like this:
http://www.webtechquery.com/index.php/2010/04/install-grub2-from-live-cd/

Its not a bother, just try to do some research before asking ad you'll learn more. You don't search for the link. That's just an example link I found. You can use it to get fixed. You need your Ubuntu install CD and boot to it, you can run the commands

I did run the commands. Exactly. Several times. Each time I get the message:

"cannot stat aufs"

I guess I will go search for that.

The above suggestion did not work. I re-booted the live cd. When the 'choose your system' (my words) came up, I went to the 11.04 safe mode and asked it to fix problem packages. When done, it was fixed, and my "stuff" was all still there. I now have 11.04 and 10.10 to choose from. Sort of a pain, but it works.

Download 11.04 Natty ISO image, make a bootable USB stick or CD, and then choose "Upgrade existing OS". Update-manager doesn't always succeed to upgrade properly system.

Can you help with this problem?
