Grub problem in ubuntu 11.04

Asked by pranav ganorkar

The grub that is installed with ubuntu natty narwhal is not working on my system properly. My monitor(or cpu,I don't know it properly) gives me a message that the frequency is out of range and advises me to lower the resolution.I don't see the grub menu and the bootsplash and the computer comes directly to the ubuntu 11.04 desktop.I did a new complete reinstall from maverick. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem.Any kind of help will be
appreciated.I have tried hours of googling, but found no way to fix it.Is it a bug in ubuntu 11.04?

Try reducing the screen resolution from System Settings and see if that fixes the problem

You are the third one this week.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Configuring%20GRUB%202 #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
Else you can install Startup Manager and do it via a friendly GUI.

It seems to be a bug.

I had the same problem with a 'normal' pc and my notebook HP Pavilion dv7 switched the display permanent off.

For both machines I found 2 solutions:
(1) Remove 'quiet' and / or 'splash' from the grub menu.
(2) Use startup manager to set any screen resolution. This adds some missing settings for the splash screen to the grub configuration files.

If your machine doesn't start any gui, you can edit your grub menu at boot time with (1) to start the gui and then install startupmanager and after this configure the splash screen with (2).

"It seems to be a bug." Yes, so if you could both open a bug, it would be a good idea!

Can you help with this problem?
