Ubuntu 10.10 Suddenly Won't Boot
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a brand new HD about 2 weeks ago...it was working fine until today.
I was using the computer, went away for a while, and when I came back the screen was black as if the screen saver had activated; I moved the mouse to wake it up but nothing happened.
I ended up having to reboot the computer. When I did not all of a sudden Ubuntu will not boot. I can see the GRUB menu fine (including Windows Vista which I have installed on another HD), but as soon as I select the first Ubuntu option the screen spits out a bunch of text which scrolls down; all I can see is the bottom which looks something like this:
Begin: running /scripts/
done.
Begin: Running /scripts/
done.
mount: mounting /sys on/root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory
Target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init.
No init found. Try passing init=bootarg.
BusyBox v1.15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on...just as an FYI, my BIOS and Windows both still see and recognize the HD that Ubuntu is on.
