Asked by Sabian Purnama

I've just upgrade my ubuntu to 10.10 from 10.04 yesterday.
TOday my firefox internet explorer crash and the sreen goes steady with my wallpaper but nothing else for a long time.
Than i pushed restart button and i got this line "Kernal panic not syncing VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)...and so on"

If i insert the cd live, i got "(process:336):Glib-WARNING **: GETPWUID_4(): FAILED DUE TO UNKNOWN USER ID (0)"

What should i do now?"

After several tries, finally i can acces the trial mode of the ubuntu live cd.
I reinstal the grub then restart it but now it is getting worse. My screen goes black with some white horizontal lines in the middle. What should i do??

Do you have still menu ? In this case, try previous kernel version (3rd line).
Do you have an NVidia card, and did you change something on driver ?
You could try (I said try...) : http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ubuntu-10-04-lts-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup.html even you issue is not a blank screen.

I've tried the previous kernel and it says "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode. Screen, Graphics card & input device settings could not be detected corrected"

There are some choice: Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session, Reconfigure graphics, Troubleshoot the error, Exit to console login, Restart X

The "getpwuid" warning message is a meaningless one. I hope that some day someone will remove it. Sorry, I misread yesterday your message (too much messages to manage). Currently, I can't diagnose the problem. At first, could you reinstall Grub2 (bootloader) from CD. Perhaps the devices are wrongly named: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

It's fine delance, thx for your help anyway. BUt i still go nowhere eventhough i've reinstall grub2.

From http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ubuntu-10-04-lts-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup.html i found that i don't have /etc/X11/xorg.conf (the third solution). BUt i don't know how to copy a new “known good” xorg.conf file to the HD.

It's outside my competence area. I will let question open so someone else could answer.
http://www.osguides.net/operation-systems/217-how-to-create-xorgconf-in-ubuntu-910.html will tell you how to create file xorg.conf.

i've create file xorg.conf. But still my problem not solved yet.

I find the page with some menu: Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session, Reconfigure graphics, Troubleshoot the error, Exit to console login, Restart X.

I do have nvidia card but i don't change anything (as far as i can remmember). THis happens after my computer got crash (maybe that was caused by too much program that i operate).
