installing ubuntu 10.10 error

I just installed ubuntu 10.10 everything went good untill it asked for a restart and when the system rebooted i got a prompt error: out of disk.
grub rescue>

UBUNTU wont load at all

Did you install from http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/windows-installer, or from within Windows (using Wubi)?
If yes, did you process updates when prompted by the Update Manager - including a grub update that asked you to select where to install it, and you checked on /dev/sda?

it was installed from ubuntu.com/desktop i had linux mint 9 previous install Windows has never touched this harddrive and yes all updates were processed but it never asked for a grub update
