Can't access my files and Windows 7 won't boot...

Asked by Bagshik G. on 2010-12-17

Hey everybody !

Yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 for the first time, so I made a new partition to install the OS on it.
After the installation, everything went well, I started Ubuntu but I couldn't see my documents on my other partitions.
When I restarted my laptop, I got a new boot menu (GRUB), Windows 7 was listed on it but I couldn't start it...

I searched for similar problems on the internet but I couldn't find a good solution to it... I really need some help :S...

Thanks in advance !

Sincerely,
Bagshik G.

sounds like you didn't defrag the drive before installing ubuntu, so some windoze system files got over written.

try doing a system restore by pressing F8 right after you load windoze.

Thanks for your answer but I did it already, the problem is when I try to repair Windows 7, the program says that he can't find any Windows OS on my hard drive... I don't know how to repair the system so it can locate my Windows OS...

1-Restoring Seven partition loader

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1014708

Firstly, you have to restore "boot" sector of Seven partition.
You must first boot off your Windows Vista/7 installation DVD.
When you get to the Regional settings, select your Location/Keyboard setting then click next.
On the next page you must click on "Repair your computer."
Then click on "Command prompt". From there, type in the following:
   bootrec.exe /fixboot
But don't type "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" for the moment.
Then remove DVD and reboot.

2-Getting boot configuration

There is a standard script provided to analyse boot configuration.

Could you download script at:

   http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/

Then in a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) run command:

    sudo bash boot_info_script055.sh

This will produce a file named: RESULTS.txt

Paste content of this file in http://paste.ubuntu.com/ and provide in this thread the link to Web page.

Please don't post file directly in thread, else it will make thread difficult to read.
