Does the drive show in BIOS? What interface does the new drive use? SATA? PATA? SCSI?

The DVD Drive is SCSI drive.Yes it does show in the BIOS.When I boot ubuntu the following things appear on the screen

Gave up waiting for root device.
Common problem
-boot args(cat/proc/cmdline)
-check root delay=did the system wait long enough
-check root=did the system.......
-missing modules(cat/proc/modules;ls/dev)

Alert!/dev/disk byvvid....................does not exist.Dropping to a shell
enter help for list of built in commands

(initramfs)
