Problem Installing UBUNTU

Asked by Judson Ellenburg

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 and it keeps saying this
BusyBos v1.15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3- 1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
(initramfs) mount: mounting/dev/loop0 on//filesystem.squashfs failed: Input/output error
Can not mount/dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on//filesystem.squashfs

I have tried making a couple of different live discs but I keep getting the same error every time. I am kind of new to Linux but am willing to learn. Please help!!

I have a live disk for Back Track 4 that works just fine, i don't understand why it isn't booting right.

My Ubuntu 10,10 was working perfectly, but due to some update in Windows XP, when I finished and re-booted, this Windows started without giving me prompt to select either Ubuntu or Windows as it was giving me before.

So, there are no way I could go into Ubuntu anymore, unless I re-install 10.10. But in this case all my file of Ubuntu will be destroy I guess.

What do I do the get back selection prompt?

Do you install Ubuntu inside Windows partition ?
If yes, please link to project "Wubi" instead of packet "grub2".
Else try this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

Well i am not sure, What I am trying to do is restart my computer, hit F12 and boot from the LiveCD. It will start the boot and show UBUNTU with the 5 dots under it then goes to a black screen and shows what i posted above.

In a terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), type the following command:
    sudo parted -l
where "-l" is lowercase "L". This will display list of partition.
Please post result.

You can try to install it using the Ubuntu alternate CD from one of the mirrors. This Cd is more robust and tends to bypass any graphics card/monitor errors you may have. The installation procedure is somewhat more difficult and text based instead of GUI. But if you keep the default values you should be fine.

Probably some hardware incompatibility with the Desktop CD. The alternate CD is less picky on hardware and has better chance to get the job done.
