after starting ubuntu i'm getting grub rescue> _ wat to do for this

i havw installed ubuntu 9.10 . after installation it asked me to restart wen i restarted my laptop its just giving grub rescue> _ . as i'm using Windows 7 also its not switching to that OS plz help we with this prob....

sir..
its not taking me to terminal at all..
just wen i switch on my laptop its showing the following lines
'GRUB loading..
error : unknown file system
grub rescue>_ '

Maybe you should try the recovery of grub2 via a live cd, that's in the docu linkage actionparsnip provided for/to you.
Or try it via the Super Grub Disk iso, burn it, and use the documentation.
When starting a live-cd you have to press the f12 key (sometimes another key), and choose: start booting from a (live) cd.
