Netbook 10.04 LTS Boot Up choices

Asked by Stephen Buck

Just installed 10.04 LTS Netbook edition on my ASUS EeePC 900. All works beautifully.
When I boot up and get past the ASUS splash screen, I am encountered with a list of boot choices. I would like the boot up sequence to go directly into Ubuntu (This is not a multiple boot system). The machine will boot to Ubuntu after a 10 second countdown unless I change the boot option. Any ideas as to how to do this?

You can change the countdown in /etc/default/grub

If you have multiple kernels, you can remove the unused ones to save ~120Mb per kernel

You can edit the files manually, but that's always risky. You can install "startupmanager", I'm almost sure it will offer you the option to hide the menu. Or at least reduce the countdown to 1 or 2 seconds. If it doesn't offer that, you can then edit the configuration file by hand, I can assist you if you want.

Problem is solved. Thanks Francois. I'm wary of editing code so i used startupmanager. Worked perfectly.
Thanks to each of you for your help.
