How to save i915.modeset=1 command in Ubuntu 10.04 on a USB flash dri

Asked by steve kreger

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a 8 Gig Flash drive with 4 gig Persistance. I have a Gateway Laptop with intel video chip set and can run okay with the command i915.modeset=1. But I would like to know how I can save this command without having to type it at startup. I am also running windows Xp along side Ubuntu 9.10 on my hard drive. I Also would appreciate a step by step instructions on how I can upgrade to 10.04 on my harddrive without having the intel video problem!

Thanks for the help!!

edit /etc/default/grub and add it in the quotes with quiet splash

save the new file and run:

sudo update-grub

to apply it

I found the file, but when I tried to edit the file it doesn't give me access. How do I do that?
