Do you have dual boot ?
Do you see:
Grub menu (menu with different OS or boot option)
   the "five dots" screen
What do you call "computer specs" ?.

Could you boot on Ubuntu CD, choose "Try but don't install" and type command
     parted -l
where "-l" is lowercase "-L", and post result

By accessing to your bios settings... please
- verify the boot device order
- verify the parameter of your hard disk if they are not auto detect...

Bob,

Sorry BOB, I forgot...I couldn't install Ubuntu...the CD had an error on it.
So I installed XP so I could get back online to download and burn another
Live CD. Sorry, I've been back and forth with this thing so much, I get
mixed up.

Background...I could't boot from my cd drive so I switched hard drives with
another computer to load Ubuntu. Everything was fine until a certain
point...It couldn't fully load...I had to reburn the Live CD. But by then
the install had wiped out the XP OS. So I had to reinstall XP so I could get
online again.

So the problem is not Ubuntu...it must be XP. I still have a problem tho and
I'm not sure what to do. Not sure if this forum can help me. This
'situation' trying to get Ubuntu installed, etc, has been going on for
weeks!

A BIG sigh

If you hold shift at boot, select recovery mode, then scroll down and select root. You can now run:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then reboot, may help

Can you help with this problem?
