how to install original grub in Ubuntu 10.04 (not the grub2)

Asked by N Dhert

Ubuntu uses by default Grub2 as bootloader for new installations, no longer the original grub.
Cloning a dual boot Windows/Ubuntu 10.4 with Ghost or AltirisRDeploy fails, because of Grub2
If there any way to make a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.4 with the original grub (also called "Legacy" grub) bootloader
instead of the Grub2 ?

Sure, just follow the grub documentation and install it, it is in the main repo:

$ apt-cache policy grub
grub:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.97-29ubuntu60
  Version table:
     0.97-29ubuntu60 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto

Will show how to install it.
