can't sudo update-grub

Asked by dd

Dear Ubuntu,

After updating the grub.cfg file, I am having difficulty using the sudo update-grub command in Terminal. It fails and I get a message: /etc/default/grub: 4: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

What does this mean, how can I fix it, and is there any other simpler way of updating grub?

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

Thanks.
