Help please After Install 10.04 I just Grub>

I am very new with this Ubuntu 10.04 I just tried it last night. after I install it all that comes up with is Grub>
I have spent a good 26 hours reformatting trying all sorts, I have read so much till my eyes bleed almost.
system Intel p4 2.6 2Gb Ram 250GB hdd ATI graphics card (noticed driver problem) I loved the look of the Ubuntu and I thought the simplicity of it as well, Boy was I wrong.
I can get it to boot off the CD live and, I got it to install, but then it says remove the cd and restart so I did and then from there I got it to boot normally once and installed the updates and then same thing as all the other times, just come's up with Tab something and then Grub>
Any help at all would be greatly accepted
