Asked by Ramy Al-AShram

I Have a series problem boot loader, first i installed win vista and Linux ubuntu 9.04 form long time ago, due to some needs, i had to install win xp , after re-setup the grub on linux, the win xp OS became active instead of win vista, so i had to run the win vista from the DVD to active the win vista, but the win xp partition disappear again.

i need to be able to run the 3 OS systems from the grub, does any one have an idea how to do it or maybe he had faced before?

Hello Ramy.

Try doing the grub setup [sudo grub, find /etc/boot/stage1, root (hdx,y), setup (hdx)] again.

If it doesn't works, you should try to make vista's loader to see xp and then tell grub to boot vista's loader so you can choose between vista or xp using vista's loader, try using EasyBCD software (for windows), try google a guide about dual boot xp and vista with vista installed first.

If that doesn't works either you should edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and add the respective lines to each windows, copy your actual menu.lst file (being vista or xp the one can boot) then make the steps you did to boot the other windows, re-setup grub and copy the new menu.lst, finally edit it and add the missing lines.

Good luck.

The order you should install your OS are:
XP - Vista - Ubuntu
Try to fix your XP-Vista boot order first, and then (when you have the Vista loader) fix your GRUB.

Can you help with this problem?
