Installed Ubuntu don't boot i get grub error 22

Asked by Barrie Hawkyard

Installed from downloaded CD burn. I think I've made a mess of windows but that's another story. The system will not boot. error 22 is showing on the boot up screen. The system then freezes. I have had to re enter the cd and use the uninstalled version to get on line to you. HELP!!!

Could you provide information on the system you are using? Or trying to use I should say. Any info is helpful.

What system hardware do you have? Do you have 2 HDDs or one hard disk with more than one partition?

I have a Windows Vista Home Basic and am trying to use ubuntu 9.4 (i thnik) The latest downlaod today. The installation disc said it would partition the hard drive (I have 3 drives but only the C drive was used for the installation of ubantu (Windows is also on this drive) When the installation of ubantu was finished, I re-booted as instructed and as the system was re-booting, GRUB 1.5 came up then Error 22 and the system froze. I have put the cd in and used the Try without installing option to get online.

Did you MD5 check the ISO you downloaded?
Did you run the CD self-verifier?

Found the problem. I have 3 hard drives, 2 sata and 1 ide. One of the sata drives was my C drive. The installer had re designated the F drive to C, C to D and left E alone!

I reformatted my C drive only to discover afterwards that it was my F drive!! Fortunately only my backup drive! I then disconnected the IDE drive (originally F), got my C drive back and then had the system working. However, as ubantu does not have all the drivers I need I decided to get rid, reformatted my c drive and re-installed windows. 2 days later I'm still installing my software...Thanks a lot !!!
