no boot after desktop install

Asked by Power_of_2

Hello
I'm installing Ubuntu 9.04 on an HP ML110 G3 machine where I am actually running Vista.
I bought a brand new 1TB HDD and the installation process went all right.
Afterwards the machine doesn't boot from the Ubunto disk, although I have tried it with and without boot manager.
Here is the partitioning schema:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| / (84GB) | /sw (160GB) | /bk (250GB) | /data (500GB) | swap (6GB) |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps I need some BIOS upgrade.
Please advise.

Thanks.

It sounds like somewhere in your install the MBR didn't work out right. Here is a guide to helping fix your MBR and fixing GRUB so that it will work out for you.

Keep it simple.

Don't mess up with IDE or SATA cables. To do a smooth install just remove all other HDD you may have in the machine and make sure your device is seen as SDA and is the only one in the system.

Otherwise, don't forget to force Grub to write to the device you are installing to and make that partition bootable!

Everything is working just fine...

Can you help with this problem?
