does grub load ok?

If so can you press esc and boot to recovery mode then select root?

A fresh install is always best but is not always an option. Can you borrow the Cd-drive from the old machine and plug it into the new one? Does the hard-drive whirr away, can you feel it get warm or faintly buzz? Does your main machine have a cd/dvd-drive and/or a usb socket? Does your machine boot into anything at all? Did it used to boot-up from this drive?

Sorry lots of questions, please just answer the ones that are easy enough to answer

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Had that problem before. Your new computer may have a higher resolution than your old one Put the drive in the new one and set the monitor resolution for 640X480. Put the drive back in your old computer and set to resolution for whatever you want. Don't forget to set the newer one also. Hope that solves your problem :)

Can you help with this problem?
