Splash to Verbose

Asked by Rob Frerejean

If I boot I see the name Ubuntu with a growing and color changing line. I don´t want that. I want to see everything in verbose mode.

How to do that?

Rob

Ahhh, thanks Rob :) I've always preferred this way of booting up but hadn't managed to get it in Ubuntu. Windows doesn't seem to ever give the choice except perhaps in safe mode but i really want to have this as standard because even though it races by so fast that it doesn't slow the bootup it does start making some of the packages a bit more familiar. The WolvixHunter bootup is beautiful, talk about elegant simplicity! And Mandriva/knoppix are very pretty and colourful.

So i've edited my menu.lst to rmove "quiet splash" but left the "ro" in there :)
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

I did want to see this because I still want to know where and when the
Powermanagement is set. I don´t want to do this by hand every time.

I´ll find my answer for sure. But when??

PS: Why did you leave the ro? What does it do?

I haven't a clue what ro does. Usually i think it makes thing "Read Only" so if i had to guess then i would say it might set the kernel to read only which would seem vital.

I just did exactly as the instructions at the bottom of the link on the link you gave us said in order to get the verbose bootup every time with having to dig around in editing the menu each time i boot up. :)
