Do you have an Ubuntu cd? Hopefully you can just put this in the cd/dvd-drive and boot up the computer. Then choosing the option "Try Ubuntu without changes to the machine" should get you to a working ubuntu desktop, we call this a "LiveCd session", if it works. Here's a guide if there's trouble getting to there
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD

Please let us know if this works first. You should find that firefox on the top taskbar is able to surf right into here from the LiveCd session :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Ok it seems like there are a few alternative ways of resolving this depending on what's available and other considerations. Don't panic :) It seems that error 22 is caused by deleting the partition containing the grub-boot-loader. So there's a few obvious questions.

1. Did you also delete tons of valuable data that you don't have backed up or can't rebuild from originals?
2. Do you have access to another machine where you could download and make a cd of a distro of linux? If so would it need to be a very small and quick download in an internet cafe or would a friend let you take your time about it?
3. Are you able to buy a small stack of maybe 10 really cheap 'write once' type cd's? These tend to be better than more expensive cds for this purpose <shrugs>
4. Do you have a usb-stick of about 8Gb or more?
5. Is your computer on a network with other machines?
6. Can you borrow a hard-drive and plug it into your machine? This is easier if it's an external drive but i might be able to help if it isn't.

If you have cds and plenty of time then perhaps download Ubuntu and then make your own cd?
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
or with no cd and just a usb stick
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook
Hopefully the instructions there ccan help you sort out copying it to the usb correctly

If you need it to be really really fast but can burn a cd then try this distro
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slitaz
with a bit more time this would be better imo
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=wolvix
use the links there to find their download sites.

Alternatively you might be able to use the Windows Cd to fix the drive, as described in this thread.
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t405091.html

If you need to recover the data then avoid doing anything else to the machine and take the drive to a data-recovery company near you and tell them. They will probably charge quite a bit so only do this if you lost some crucial data that you really care about. Once you explain that it's just a single linux partition that's not been overwritten then they should find it quite easy. Simply re-installing any OS is a much easier and cheaper way of fixing the machine! Using the Windows Cd is usually the fastest fix, if it works! (Given that you don't already have any linux disks)

Anyway, please let us know
Good luck and regards from

It's probably not booting from cd because the bios settings arent set up . Simply turn on your machine and press Esc, Del or F8 or whatever the screen says will get you into the bios and then change the boot-order so that Cd/dvd-drive is top of the list :)

Somewhere in this guide it's quite helpful about the bios
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD

I hope this simpler answer helps!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
