uBuntu & eCs

Asked by Nikko

Hi All. I have just finished 2 unsuccessful installations of uBuntu 9.04 Alternate Install, to co-exist with my eComStation OS. I have prepared a primary partition for it, on my hard disk. The partitoner is able to see this partition, format it to ext3, and install the files. However, when it comes to setting the Boot Record, Grub refuses to recognise the eCs Boot Manager or any other partition (including the uBuntu ext3 partiton) and sets itself as "fd0" which may be the MBR of the Hard Disk. My question is: Is it possible (like in uBuntu 7 alternate) to set the uBuntu boot record to the uBuntu partiton, whcih will then allow the eCs Boot Manager to recognise, then boot to it? I look forward to an answer, and thank you in advance. Regards. Nikko.

fd0 == floppy disk

I have no idea what an eCs Boot manager is but if you boot to the LiveCD you can install grub to the internal disk using this guide:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto

If you only have a single disk then the partition you will want is hd(0.0) as grub uses disk numbers istead of devices (like /dev/sdc1 etc) or silly drive letters like windows does.

Can you help with this problem?
