Installing updated kernel got errors on boot

Asked by XnimrodunterX

Hello,

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 server. i ran atp-get dist-upgrade and upgraded to the latest kernel. Upon reboot i check my /var/log messages log file and saw this error.

Apr 6 14:58:39 web kernel: Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.6.27-11-server
Apr 6 14:58:39 web kernel: Cannot find map file.
Apr 6 14:58:40 web kernel: Loaded 46091 symbols from 57 modules.

What does this error mean and how do i fix it? should i worry about this?

Thanks

If it still boots probably not. The kernel shows a lot of errors on boot and shutdown. The error will probably go away on a kernel update.

do you mean the errors will go away on the next kernel update? when i initially install 8.10 server the system booted with no errors, i only started getting errors when i did a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If you upgraded to jaunty 9.04 it more than likely will be fixed before release. I cant say it will be fixed for that you would have to ask one of the kernel developers.

I misread your question. Probably nothing to worry about.

Can you help with this problem?
