set time out for boot

Asked by tombo

Hello, I'm trying to get a usb stick to boot ubuntu 8.10, but can't get it to work. I changed the BIOS to SCSI device as the first boot option but I think the time it takes to recognize what is on the usb is more than the standard 3 seconds. Where might I find the file to change this to something like 10 seconds. I ran the following <sudo vi /boot/grub/menu.lst> but I could not change the 3 to a 10. Thanks, tombo

O.K I got vim to work and changed the boot time out to 10 seconds but the usb device still doesn't show up on the boot choices nor does it automatically. I used the 8.10 live cd and chose the option under system to put Ubuntu on a thumb drive. Everything seemed to be automatic but maybe something else needs to be configured. Thanks, tombo

hello!

Why SCSI device? AFAIK USB stick must be USB-HDD or USB-ZIP.
If your BIOS don't have that devices in boot device selection, then seems to your motherboard doesn't have function to boot from usb stick.
