well you can do it manually yourself as described http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351

or you can do it with the supergrubdisk i pointed you to http://www.supergrubdisk.org/

i was wondering why you wanted to install grub to an alternate disk to best help you troubleshoot your issue

Can you help with this problem?
