Grub error 17

Asked by visnistehn00b

I installed Ubuntu on my machine running windows 2000. I partitioned my large hard drive to about 30GB Ubuntu and 150GB Windows.

The installation finished and said to restart. When I restarted and took to cd out to boot from the hard disk, it came up with grub error 17 on loading stage 1.5.

The only way I can get to Ubuntu is to launch it off of the cd, which is what I'm doing to type this.

I was previously running Win2000 on an Intel pentium III machine. 2 hard drives. The 180, which I partitioned and a small 20gb i don't use for anything.

Any information you can give me to solutions has to be in simpletons terms please, as I know nothing about Linux.
