Dual boot using grub

No such thing. Did you change something (beside the order of entries) in your /boot/grub/menu.lst?
Can you paset and copy it here?

Looks ok. I assume you have WinXP on your first IDE drive/first (or only) partition?
It may be worth trying "rootnoverify (hd0,0)" instead of "root (hd0,0)".
