no usb devices listed in vmware

Asked by FDL

if in vmware i do

insmod usb

and

usb

I see no devices listed. From hardinfo, I can see the simulated mouse, and a physical joystick which I connected to the guest.
grub_usb_iterate does not seem to apply any filter, so I wonder why I cannot see any device.

Did you install the VMware tools?

Yes, I did, and they're working.
(I wonder, however if they have effect as early as at grub time. Furthermore, lsusb, hardinfo, etc, can see the usb devices as expected)

If the devices are seen in lsusb then you just need to configure the hardware in Ubuntu.

3D performance will be poor in the VM. I don't anticipate great gaming in a VM. 2D games will run OK though

I do not see how your comment is related to the question of why usb devices do not show up in grub.

Ahhh I see now.

GRUB is a boot loader. Do you want to use the joystick to change the booted kernel / OS in GRUB?

I can see people discussing it in forums but no solutions. Maybe others can help
