It appears that you have discovered one of my best loved features of live cd versions of Linux. I frequently use my live cd to begin troubleshooting dead Windows based machines. Windows uses drivers to operate all the hardware on your machine. It appears that you have successfully proven that your hardware is functional. I would suggest that you visit the manufacturers website (of your laptop) and download new drivers for your monitor (laptop display). Load the new drivers and see if your display comes back to life. I understand, and you should as well, that you will have a difficult time doing this, since you will have to operate in the Windows OS to accomplish the procedure. With no display, loading new drivers will be a serious challenge. Have you tried to boot in safe mode yet? If you can boot into safe mode, try using system recovery to roll back to a previous date in time where your display was performing properly. Once you accomplish that, loading the driver updates will be simple. In most cases, (actually ALL cases that I have encountered) you should have a display while BIOS is performing it's initial system tests checking memory and verifying the existence of your periferals. Your video should only fail once the Windows drivers load, or the video card takes over. Safe mode should supply basic functionality without loading any additional drivers. If you don't know how to enter safe mode, check your computer documentation, or try pressing your function keys (F5, F8, F10,F12) while booting the system. The function key varies from one machine to another, so you may have to try to boot several times to find which key your machine is set to use. Good luck!

It really looks like you are reporting a Windows bug. Ubuntu works very well apparently.

what I feel b y mistake you have enabled dual monitor mode in windows in which case Fn+F4 (F5 in Acer) will enable this mode, pressing once it will go to single video mode that is your laptop screen and pressing again will take you to dual monitor mode that is your laptop + DB15 connector both will give video output for projector or external monitor and pressing again will make none of the monitor to display....looks like presently you are working under this mode that is why your laptop is not showing any image on the screen.
Cheers
