unable to install GRUB

I have windows XP SP3 On my system on NTFS Partition and I created 3 other partition with ext3 for installing ubuntu 8 .I choose one for root(/) and the other for swap files.every thing goes well and ubuntu setup proceed until 94 per cent but when installing GRUB the setup terminates and it shows message" Unable to install GRUB ,this is a fatal error " and nothing more.
I tried to change boot load drive but it still failes when installing GRUB.
please help

Please verify if your BIOS has "boot virus protection" or something like this set...

Actually, the problem maybe solved if you change the compoition

Ex:

Before :

1. NTFS
2. Swap
3. Ext3

After

1. NTFS
2. Ext3
3. Swap

Actually I am not installing from Windows and the order of partition is like Ntfs,Ext3,Swap
but I still cannot install GRUB

Ok, try to make your partition again, choose to set your partition manually, delete the ext3 and swap partition in partition editor, make a partition ext3, set for root (/), put the partition at the end of partition (usually the partition editor will ask you where to put your partition) , then make swap partition, set for swap, put at the end of partition, and try to next step of installing ubuntu ....

Just try it ^-^ ...
