Ubuntu lost after a new Vista installation

Asked by Varun Biala

I used to have a dual boot on my system of Windows Vista and Ubuntu, for two three months it was working great. But one week ago may be some virus messed up my registry in Windows Vista, and I ended up installing up Windows Vista again on my Laptop, which resulted into disappearing my ubuntu boot on my laptop. Can anyone help me on this issue.
Regards,
Varun

Yeah, that's pretty normal for windows. It acts as though it's the only one and doesn't even bother to check for other operating systems so it will just overwrite the MBR and remove GRUB which means Ubuntu can no longer be booted. However, unless you deleted partitions Ubuntu should still be there. All you need to do is restore GRUB. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows should help you get it back.
