error 23: unable to parse for dual booted linux/xp

when I try to boot to Windows XP I get error 23: unable to parse nember. I had Windows XP installed to my first SATA drive and then installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a bare IDE drive I had. I have tried everything I could find to correct this problem with no luck. when I pull up the device.map all that is there is hd0 /dev/sda. I tried to add the SATA drive to the menu with no effect on it along with adding Windows to the menu.lst with same results. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate the help.

The error you're giving suggests an error in menu.lst. Maybe does the following link helps http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=430592 to solve your situation.
