ubuntu doesnt show after install in dual boot with xp. on reboot xp just boots up.!!!

Can you see the GRUB row at boot, after bios splash screen of your pc...?
If you can view it please press ESC.

What did you install first? Windows xp or ubuntu? If u installed ubuntu first and then xp the boot manager (grub) as been erased by xp install process. Or maybe do you have 2 hard drives? first one with xp and second one with ubuntu (and the ubuntu boot manager on second hard drive).

Don't worry, we can fix this. (have a look at ubuntu full cirle magazine #15 for more informations.... i read it yesterday)

U need to boot with ubuntu live disk.
-----------------
1 Boot the CD and open a terminal.
2 using command line type :
    grub
    find /boot/grub/stage1
It should show you on whoch partition is your linux os
3 setup grub and the mbr : type :
    root (hdx,x) <output of find command>
    setup (hd0)
    quit
4 reboot
-----------------

im trying to install ubuntu inside windows vista but i there was an error message its a about the swap disk failed so i repartition my hard drive and install ubuntu on hard drive E but when i restart the computer to boot ubuntu there is no option. windows vista boots up. how can i fix this problem?

I have installed ubuntu 8.04 first and then later on i installed the Vista OS and now what happens is that I tried to follow the instructions as specified by you but unfortunately I was not able to figure out.

I got the following error in the line
find /boot/grub/stage1

It says file not found and by the way i have mentioned the boot partion separately of 100 MB and the location is /media/disk/grub/stage1

I tried with the above location and it did not work out and it said as file not found again.....

is grub loaded on system starting?

even if the find doesnt work which is the first phisical partition? if /boot is sda1 and / is your second partion and you have only one hard drive try not to use "find ....." and try root(0,1) where 0 is your hardrive and 1 the number of your partition.

Hope you understand what i mean. My english is not clear today.

Thanks Remi Debay I found a easier solution by going to
supergrubdisk.com and downloading the bootable cd rom and I got it fixed
with my grub loader without much fuzz.

Though while fixing I encountered a problem in booting to vista but
finally by putting the Vista disk and did a repair of my computer and it
got fixed and Now my computer works as good as it should be
