laptop is asking for grub while booting

Asked by vishalkumar

respected sir ,
I booted Ubuntu for pen-drive(4GB) in which i had downloaded booting files . From my laptop which already has windows-7 and Ubuntu i tried to install Ubuntu to another pend-drive(8GB) using the previous pen-drive(4GB) as a booting CD the install was successfully completed. But now my laptop is asking for grub file to boot it is working only when my 8GB pen-drive is connected to it.
Please help me out from this problem.
Tanking you

Are you just trying to clone the USB drive, to a second device, or are you trying to install onto the local machine?

You can easily clone the USB drive using the DD command, if you are familiar with the terminal.

Classical joke: you installed a new MBR (first stage of bootloader) on internal disk and boot loader configuration file on external device. In MBR, there is a link to configuration files, and so i can't work without external device!
If, as I understand, you had a dual boot on your laptop, you must reinstall boot loader on internal drive of laptop. Be careful about choice of device and partition. It should be sda and sda1.

And mycae is right. What were you trying to do ?

Can you help with this problem?
