error 21 after i installed ubuntu 5.10

Hey everyone,

I have looked at all the other postings about people that have error 21 problems...but noting has fixed my issue. I installed ubuntu 5.10 on a extranl hard drive so i could have the abilty to run windows (I was using the guide that DaBruGo made in 2005). After i tried to install the grub to the external...and followed to steps to get the grub to boot from the external drive, but had no luck. Windows keept starting up. so after many failed attemps i decied to install ubuntu to the external drive like before, but install the grub to the master hard drive(the one where windows is) to see if i could get it going that way. After i re-booted the computer(when it told me to) I get nothing but the:

"Grub loading please wait....."
"Error 21"

And it just sits there. I played around with it a bit using VIM to edit the menu.lst and windows is still there i dident lose the system just lost the abilty to accsus my files and the windows OS. It looks like the computer looks for the grub but stops when it cant find it. So it does not load windows. Any info on how to get past this will be helpfull....I dont have the abilty to reinstall windows cause i dont have the disk, i would not want to anyways cause all my stuff is still there. Just need to know how to get past this problem....Thanks
