Is there a PPA for graphite-carbon?

Asked by Михаїл Т.

I'd like to upgrade the graphite-web and friends on our Ubuntu Trusty server. Is there a PPA I can add to the machine to track your releases, or do I have to resort to pip?

Thanks!

So many to choose from... Is/are there any, that are considered "official" by the members of this project?

No PPA is official. It's a PPA. They are all equally suspicious as they are not from the official Ubuntu repository.

Let me try asking this from another angle. This project links to several "Package Files" at the end of the page https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/graphite-carbon :

Package files

    graphite-carbon_1.0.2-1.debian.tar.xz (12.5 KiB)
    graphite-carbon_1.0.2-1.dsc (2.0 KiB)
    graphite-carbon_1.0.2-1_all.deb (66.5 KiB)
    graphite-carbon_1.0.2.orig.tar.gz (60.4 KiB)

Is the .deb "official"? Is it uploaded to any of the PPAs?

Also, would using `pip' rely on a source, that's any less suspicious and/or any more official?

(Sorry for the noise, just marking the question as still unsolved.)

It seems that you are misinterpreting some information on https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/graphite-carbon

For each Ubuntu release there is a specific version of graphite-carbon published in the official repositories.
For Ubuntu trusty it is 0.9.12-3
The newest version 1.0.2-* has been packages only in a version for Ubuntu bionic (the Ubuntu release currently in development for publication in April next year).

If you want to have 1.0.2-* on trusty, I see several options:
1. search whether someone has prepared such version in a PPA (taking into account all disclaimers that are applicable to PPAs)
2. you can create your own version (either trying to build it locally or in a PPA of your own)
3. you can try manually installing the 1.0.2-* version for bionic on your trusty system (this can work well, but can also fail because of missing or broken dependencies on other packages)
4. you can request that the newest version be backported to the older Ubuntu releases by creating a bug report.

Can you help with this problem?
