How to add program to Ubuntu Software graphical frontend?

Asked by Michal Maňas

Hello,

how to add a program to Ubuntu Software?

I would like to add the GRAMPS. It is a regular program in the Ubuntu repository
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/gramps

What is necessary to do to have GRAMPS included in the Ubuntu Software graphical front end?

I suppose it is only need an icon of the program and the textual description of the program. Where should I request such thing?

Hi Michal,

Thanks for asking this question. Actually, I think this is a bug.

All that is needed is for the AppStream data in the package to be installed in the correct location, in the right format.
https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Distributions/AppStream/

It is possible that it is because the icon is installed in the wrong location:

I see the same problem on my Focal (20.04) Ubuntu machine.

I will investigate further.

Regards,

Ross

I am using Ubuntu 20.04
I went to Ubuntu software search box typed -> Synaptic -> Installed it. -> Typed gramps in the synaptic package managers search box -> It found gramps -> check marked package to install & all of its dependicies -> Installed everything. It works fine no problems at all has an icon with 7 brown rectangle blocks.
