gpgme gets stuck on an gpgme_op_* operation in my code, gpa also does not execute

I am developer whose software uses libgpgme. recently gpgme has stopped functioning.
I am on ubuntu karmic, and fully updated. I am worried for my software users.

after loading the libgpgme11.so library in my software it seems to freeze when i hit a gpgme_op_* operation.

also gnu privacy assistant has stopped working, when i check system monitor, gpa is there, but frozen, if i kill the 'gpg' process allied to the instance of gpa, then gpa ui then becomes visible but it can't do anything cause it gets stuck (similar to my program, but i haven't debugged it or anything) if i click anything related to a gpg operation.
